Paul van der Laan operates from a studio near the seaside in The Hague as a typographic designer. He runs Type Invaders, his privately owned typography studio, and is founding partner of Bold Monday, an independent font foundry.

He is a tutor in Type Design at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, and has also given workshops and lectures about type design at numerous schools, including the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Basel, Konstfack in Stockholm, ECAL in Lausanne, AFAD in Bratislava and at Typo Berlin, Forum Typography and ATypI conferences.

He is the designer of acclaimed typefaces, including Rezident (Linotype), Flex (Type Invaders), Chalet Comprimé (House Industries), FF Kievit Pro (FontFont, in conjunction with Mike Abbink), Feisar (Type Invaders).
